Dear Olive Ream,

Given your interest in issues related to Pakistan, we thought you might like to check out our work on US Assistance to Pakistan. We’ve just published an article in the Washington Quarterly called When $10 Billion Is Not Enough: Rethinking US Strategy Toward Pakistan, and more Pakistan coverage on our blog (www.pcrproject.com) on hearts and minds, youth in Pakistan, and development assistance. The Post-Conflict Reconstruction (PCR) Project is a part of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think-tank located in Washington, DC. Additionally, we have just released a new report called Breaking Point: Measuring Progress in Afghanistan.

Best,
The PCR Project Team

Patrick Fitzgerald did not have the authority to prosecute except for the leak, as he was appointed special prosecutor for this case. He does not have other authority in DC.

Patrick Fitzgerald is a very, very tough prosecutor. He cannot be bought. He angers many with his delight to enforce the law vigorously without fear or favor. While a Republican appointee, he prosecuted the Republican governor of the state where he is the federal prosecutor for the Northern District of Illinois.

Procedurally, Fitzgerald's jurisdiction was "special prosecutor" for this case only As a special prosecutor, he did not have the ability to bring other cases other than the leak case. He was brought into this case because he did not have special ties to Washington. He is very, very good, maybe the best in the U.S., and serves justice because he deeply believes in it.

Many Republicans dislike him because he can't be talked into doing political favors. I have the highest regard for his work, and I would not take his results lightly.
