He does not have other authority in DC. Patrick Fitzgerald is a very, very tough prosecutor. He cannot be bought. He angers many with his delight to enforce the law vigorously without fear or favor. While a Republican appointee, he prosecuted the Republican governor of the state where he is the federal prosecutor for the Northern District of Illinois. Procedurally, Fitzgerald's jurisdiction was "special prosecutor" for this case only As a special prosecutor, he did not have the ability to bring other cases other than the leak case.
